Griot's Garage 10765STDCRD 6" Random Orbital with 10' Cord Product Description:

  • Remove swirl marks and scratches quickly and safely
  • Apply wax in a quarter of the time
  • Adjustable loop handle
  • Variable speed 850 watts motor, 6 inch hook and loop backing plate
  • 10 feet power cord

Product Description

Griot's Garage has developed a random orbital machine polishing system that is safe for your paint and makes it easy to achieve flawless results with minimal work. It comes equipped with a powerful 850-watt motor with low-end torque for better results when polishing at low speeds. The wider 5/16 inch diameter orbit and variable speed indexing with 6 settings lets you breeze through polishing jobs. This polisher also features a standard 10-foot power cord. With the Griot's Garage system, there isn't a safer or easier way to remove swirl marks, fine scratches, and apply a protective coating to your paint--not with wool pads, not with cotton bonnets, and not by hand. The problem with the old way of using wool or cotton pads and non-orbital (straight drive/rotary) polishers is that the cutting action is so great that it produces its own heat and swirl marks, which burns and damages the paint. By following the detailed instructions, or watching the included DVD (both are included), you can polish and wax your car quickly and safely. The results will astound you. Foam pads sold separately.

5Anyone can use this tool
By kleingti
I have been a auto collision tech and painter for over twentyfive years. I have really never been able to make myself happy with the results os a rotary buffer. The dual action design makes all the difference in the world. I took the handle off mine, because it was so different from what I am used to. It is so smooth the handle is not even needed. Very high quality. I would rate this a pros tool. I would suggest watching the enclosed video and a few on you tube if you are new to machine buffing. I think you'll love the results. I should also add that all three of my cars are black and there's no tougher color to make look right.

5Pricing aside, I'm constantly pleased
By Sardonic
while it's true that you can get polishers like this for less money, and likely also true that you can work magic with them, I have to say that I am consistently pleased with Griot's. When I got this latest toy, I thought it looked a bit too much like an "in-house" creation and not so much what I would expect from a "professional tool" as it's advertised. That feeling lasted about 15 minutes, the time it took to unpackage it and start my play time. I have this, and the 3" inch and I've done more amazing work on two cars in the last week than I think I've done in years.Pros:Works as advertised, EASY to control!!! EASY to maintain, change pads, etc. OH, and definitely use their polish, it washes out with water and no mess. I had black rubber mess all over my pads in addition to the polish and it came out with running water.Balanced and naturalComes with instructions that really deliver what they promise to. So many times you buy stuff that comes with a "perfect world" scenario in the instructions that you just can't seem to replicate, well, not Griot's. What they did on the videos is exactly what I did in real life.Complete so far: (using #3 polish, yellow pads, orange pads, and rubber restore1999 Camaro Z28 HEAVY hood and door sill oxidation and clear coat breakdown- Solved with like new appearanceSame car, fully oxidized headlights, full restored to the point that I don't need to buy new ones.....clear and clean.Same car, window and door exterior rubber welt/weather stripping, oxidized, partially pasty white and appearance of deteoration: fully restored with light sheen and factory appearanceSame car, window quarter panel: discolored and faded: fully restored and shiny. 5Powerful enough for minor paint correction
By D. Alexander
I've just finished a four-hour session of polishing and waxing with this product. My previous buffer was a $20 10" model common at Sears and Wal-Mart. That one had no trouble with wax, but didn't have the power to apply any sort of abrasive. This one is another story entirely. It has something like 7 speed levels. On speed 5, I can't push hard enough to significantly slow the motor. The orbital action is much, much faster, and it provided quick results with Meguiar's M105 compound. It's also a fairly industrial product. Build quality is higher than my Porter Cable cordless tools. I ran it for twenty minutes at a time with short breaks. It heated up a bit, but didn't stop, slow down, or make untoward sounds. Lake Country 6.5" pads have the perfect amount of overhang.A few caveats: it's noisy. There's a high-pitched overtone to the motor sound akin to a circular saw that had me reaching for earplugs. It's not hugely objectionable and you could probably do without, but prudence never hurts. The power switch is finicky to turn off. The speed switch is recessed into the back of the unit and requires you to stop what you're doing to adjust it. It really should be on right side of the unit where your hand would be.All that said, I consider this the best random orbital polisher in this price class. It's significantly more powerful (7 amps) than the Porter Cable 7424XP (4.5 amps) or Meguiar's DA (4.2 amps), has a lifetime warranty, and unlike the Porter Cable, comes with a counterweight for larger pads. This Griot is periodically on sale for $100 or less; make a deal alert on Slickdeals with the word 'Orbital' and you'll eventually find one of the three for a song.

5Excellent external drive
By J. Moomaw
This drive has been a pleasant surprise across the board. Based on my testing I'm planning to use several for disaster recovery and for local disk expansion (esp for Adobe Lightroom which won't use catalogs on network resources). I can't really find any faults. It's fast:The challenge with large drives is having adequate bandwidth to move large data volumes to what they're attached to. USB2 is a real bottleneck for drives over 1TB. It takes hours to move big loads. For this 2TB drive it would take a day and a half to fill at typical USB2 port speeds.* When connected to USB3 it tested over twice as fast when communicating to a high-speed NAS server over gigabit Ethernet vs. when connected to USB2. In this case I installed a USB3 ExpressCard in my Lenovo T61 laptop for testing to a ReadyNAS U6+. I was seeing >25MB/sec sustained for a 25GB mixed-file-size test.* Back and forth to the Lenovo internal drive the speed was significantly lower and USB V3/V2 difference was slightly less than 2x. Surprisingly this external drive on USB3 is faster than the internal laptop drive (no slouch, a WD 250GB 7200rpm), so when used as a local drive there will probably be little to no compromise in speed. It's enclosed and connectors/buttons are robust:Unlike previous WD Books I've used, it doesn't have air vents. The case is mostly aluminum, and it feels solid. It only gets slightly warm when running flat out. However it isn't rated as rugged so it shouldn't be bounced around or exposed to moisture. Having read about issues with connectors on competing products I wanted to avoid those problems, and everything about this is well designed. It does have an odd USB data cable you'll want to keep track of... it's not like the 20 others you already have. One end (at the drive) is a new "USB 3.0 Micro-B" format while the other end is the old boxy Type-A format you know. It will connect to either V2 or V3 USB computer portsIt's small:For a 2TB external drive the case is reasonably compact, and they stack nicely. It has soft rubber runners on the bottom. OK, it also looks nice if that matters. It comes with a power supply:Having been burned in the past trying to source enough power from USB ports to power external drives I always use separate supplies when I can. They come in the box. The problem is that the USB V2 spec calls for a max load of 500mA per port, but too often the vendors are providing devices that need much more than that. The symptoms of inadequate power on drives are usually write failures and file corruption, the last thing you want. The vendor work-around has been the Y-connectors, which work if you have them along with spare USB ports. In fact LaCie includes an extra USB-port power cable if you don't want to use the power supply; I recommend you use it in that case to avoid trouble. It's silent:It virtually makes no noise. The blue light on top blinks when it's doing something, but that's about the only way to know. It doesn't have usage bars or LCD readouts. It's easy to set up:It runs a quick simple little application to configure it, and then it's ready to go with 1.8TB usable space in Windows.Internals:Mine have a Seagate ST2000DL001 9VT156 (2TB 5900rpm) drive, a member of their green Barracuda series. Spec sheets on the ST2000DL003 are probably close. Operating temp 0-60C.Update 14mar2012:* I have four drives I use almost daily with automatic scripts. No problems, no fails.* Case where I'm backing up NAS (on 1Gb network) with LaCie (attached to Intel_i7 USB3): Copy speeds run between 40-50MB/sec sustained between the LaCie and the NAS server, twice what I was seeing with the older laptop (no big surprise).* Case where I'm backing up Intel_i7 desktop SSD with LaCie: Copy speeds from the SSD to this USB3 drive run 92MB/sec for a mix of 40 large files. This might be as fast as you can expect these drives to run.

5At last, a quiet external hard drive
By David Nelson
My first two external hard drives, a LaCie and an Iomega, had internal fans and thus were very noisy. So, for my next external hard drive, I looked for a fanless one, and bought one of those LaCie "Design by Neil Poulton" drives. Beautiful black monolith design, no fan -- and it sounded like a popcorn popper when it would read and write. Arggh! It drove me crazy. I had to put it in a foam-lined box under my desk to keep the noise down (which put the beautiful design to waste). But this! This is a quiet external hard drive. Just the slightest whirring of the spinning disk, and a wee little bit of sound from the read and write heads (which I don't even notice anymore).I wish I'd bought two. I may yet.

4Solid Drive
By mg in kc
Only had it since August, but it appears to be a solid drive. A tad slow (I believe its a 5,400), but it is quiet. I've had no problems with it. I got tired of short-lived Seagates and WDs (WD should be ashamed for continuing to sell their "book" drives--I had three fail after two years).I'm hoping Lacie will prove to be a solid performer. I don't mind paying a bit more for a good drive.

3Your mileage may vary.
By Michael Poole
This package was going for around $760-780 range at the the time of purchase. The items pictured are not brand specific, so I wasn't expecting top of the line stuff, but what I got was substantially less than what I was expecting. The camera, of course, is a good product currently available around $649 anywhere. The package I received contains everything shown, but they are extremely cheap versions. For example, the bag is a $7 one looking nothing like the one pictured and with little padding of any consequence. The tripod is an $8 item and feels very flimsy. It'll do as a starter, but I don't expect it to last long. All of the other items are similar in generic cheapness.Looking up the average price of each of the items in my particular package, I actually paid more than if I had bought the camera separately and all the items individually. Pretty disappointing and I was tempted to return it.I'm considering it a lesson learned: unless the items in a package are clearly specified so you can verify your savings before hand, skip it.Love the camera, though.

4Awesome camera; decent package for the price
By Edge14
Camera is awesome. I've had a few issues with the memory card, but I was using my camera for about an hour outside in 30-40 degree weather. Other than that, no problems with anything. The tripod is okay, nothing special - it gets the job done. The bag is decent as well containing enough room for an extra lens, extra battery, the camera itself; it also has many zippered compartments. Overall it's a great packaged deal for the price.

3good camera, questionable accessories
By Bob Lane
The camera and accessories seem like quite a bargain until you discover that the tripod stand is too small to use because it won't support the weight of the camera with the accessory lens included and isn't tall enough for a person of shorter stature to use. Secondly the camera bag won't hold all of the equipment purchased. You might as well buy the camera for less and buy your own accessories that work together. This bundle rates poorly.

5Fantastic
By James Tee
Shortly put, this scanner is amazing albeit pricey. It's exactly what we wanted - you can take groups of photos of any orientation/size, and just put them into the feeder. It really does scan at about 30photos/min at 300dpi; we scanned at 600dpi and it probably got through almost 20 per minute. It has a fairly small footprint (we packed it in our carry-on and have been taking it to our various family gatherings across the continent to digitize family photos that could otherwise be lost to disaster/fire, or keep the box it comes in and just throw the box into your checkin luggage (survived several flights without problems so far!). A few minor downsides to the scanner in our 3 weeks of experience with it thus far:1. Works best if you can arrange to have a flatbed scanner handy as well. The reason is that if you're going through old photos, you may come across the rare photo that is oversize (ie. greater than letter size) which may not fit in the scanner. Also, teh scanner does have problems with really small photos (ie. 1" x 2" photos don't always get detected readily). Thirdly, if you have photos in one of those old lined-sticky albums, you may have trouble getting your photos out without tearing them and may want to opt for using a flatbed scanner.2. Though the scanner program has an autorotate option, it doesn't work well especially when there are no faces in the photos for it to autodetect. Rotating photos 90degrees is easily achieved with a push of a button, but the program lacks a button to rotate photos 180degrees with a single push (you have to click 90degrees rotation twice). This seems like a small concern, but when you have 2500+ photos to go through and manually rotate, you will begin to wish a 180degree rotation button existed.3. The scanner requires an included USB-activator key to be plugged into the scanning computer at the same time for use. I worry about losing the USB key at some point, but I guess from a business perspective it prevents folks from stealing the scanner as you can keep the usbkey separately and it likely renders the scanner useless without it.

4Works as advertised
By Beebo
With thousands upon thousands of family photos to scan it made sense for us to buy this instead of paying a service way more than this scanner cost us. Using a flatbed for that many photos of course isn't even an option.I'm still amazed every time I watch this plow through a stack of photos. It really does make short work of your scanning, even if your stack of photos are not all the same size it just pulls them through and there they are right on the computer..KEEPING IT CLEAN IS CRUCIAL! Make sure you clean it before your first use, and keep up on it. It doesn't take much to start getting lines and other defects. Use the cleaning paper often!Setup: Putting all the pieces together, plugging it in, and initial cleaning were not overly intuitive and the directions weren't much help either. The software installation was easy enough at least.Software: The software doesn't appear to have been updated in years. It's pretty rudimentary and doesn't have a ton of configuration options. Using its autocorrect feature is SLOW and uses a lot of CPU power. Without having used the PS810 I have to assume having the system correct each photo itself must be a huge time saver. With that said, I really didn't see much difference with the auto correction and still had to use Photoshop to clean up many of the images.Keeping the unit clean is the biggest challenge. You will spend more time than you expected to running the cleaning paper through it and opening it up and following the rest of the cleaning process. We founds that the cleaning paper needs to be run through about every 30 photos and the rest of the cleaning process needs to be done every 100-150 photos.

5Best device ever
By sutterbook
Scanned 4000 photos flawlessly. It does require frequent cleaning about every two hundred photos. Works well with documents too but really built for photos. Software basic but does the job, can't scan directly into a folder but has to be copied into a folder

5Roces has the skate for you if you're a big foot!
By Deusilan
First I'd like to say that my foot size is a 15 EEE. When I placed my order, I ordered a size 16 skate knowing that the skate is supposed to be true to your foot size. Amazon sent me a size 17, but let me tell you I don't know what I would have done if I got the 16 because the size 17 skate fits my foot like a glove going against all skate-sizing logic but this is the case. Anyways the skate is very comfortable and easy to skate with. I'm not a hockey player or a figure skater, but feel like a pro with these skates. I highly recommend them for everyone needing a larger skate, because frankly they're the only option unless you go to Bauer or CCM and have them make a mold of your foot for a custom skate.

5I'm so lucky
By Mark Mark
I bought this product 3 months ago, and ever since I have had nothing but compliments from both sexes, women more particularly. I have lots of girlfriends, and girl friends and all of them rave and relish on how great I smell all the time. They always want to lean in closer for a better smell. Even family member and my bros ask what that wonderful fragrance is! But its the ladies guys...this is the cologne to get. I haven't wore cologne since I was in high school, but ever since I bought this I have had more success with the ladies...let me tell you. I don't always tell my secret though on what I'm wearing so I tell people the "redneck" way of saying the name of the cologne, Blue D. Channel...lol! But yes, this is the Cream of the crop...or I should say Creme dela Creme! Just buy it now!

I bought the trial size due to the price of the product and the fact that I was completely unfamiliar with the scent. It is the best smelling fragrance I have ever tried. In a few days I received tons of complements and my wife loves it!!!! I will buy the bigger bottle on my next Amazon order. The trial size is more expensive than other trial fragrances. It cost about $12 for the tiny vial. It was worth it for me because I do not care to go to department stores.

The SoyaJoy G3 (TM) Soy milk Maker is a complete redesign based on the original best-selling SoyaJoy and SoyaPower soy milk maker models. We have made numerous improvements in this 3rd generation design (G3). The G3 increased soy milk cooking time for worry free and better tasting soy milk. It is the only machine that makes fully cooked milks, as well as raw milks, such as hemp milk, almond milk, to retain more of the natural nutrition. The G3 is guaranteed to be the newest and greatest soy milk maker, period. Take advantage of the introductory price right now.

The SoyaJoy G3TM boasts the following Improvements in addition to all the features and proven quality of the SoyaJoy:

1. Improved machine head handle for gripping comfort.

2. Higher soy milk yield - thanks to the "Tornado Funnel" filter-less grinding technology.

3. Easier to add soybeans - directly add to the pitcher.

4. Longer heating element - more even heating with no chance of burned soy milk on heater.

5. Easier to use and clean - clean up in minutes, as easy as cleaning a pot. While cleaning, machine head can be placed in upright position on flat surface .

6. 2-year limited warranty ($20 value), the only brands offering 2-year warranty.

In addition to above listed, SoyaJoy G3 (TM) retains all the SoyaJoy features and advantages.

5I didn't think it could get any better! w/TIPS...
By MariaSmiles
After months of research, I originally bought the SoyaPower Plus, which I was very happy with. Then, MacGuffin, another reviewer, was very thoughtful and told me about this new model, the SoyaJoy G3. I looked into and decided it was a better option for me than the SoyaPower Plus. The MAIN reason being that this G3 has the ability to make RAW milks and juices. I really enjoyed my previous model (it really is great and if you don't care about RAW, then go for it), but I am SO happy I "upgraded"! The raw milks are done faster (no water heating/cooking time) and they can be drank right away (no "cooling off" time). The milks come out at a perfect temperature (not too hot, not too cold).STYLE:I also prefer the "aesthetic" of the G3 over the SoyaPower Plus (which looked nice, in its own right). However, for me, I have NO white in my kitchen, but I do have a lot of other stainless counter-top appliances in view (toaster oven, blender, ice cream maker, coffee maker). So, this blends right in. In addition, the dark ring around the top and line in the handle is a deep burgundy brown, which matches my cabinets. Also, the lights are the super-cool glowing blue color, with illuminated outline images of what is being used (beans, etc.). The previous model had a single red LED for each function button.None of this has anything to do with making milk, but since MacGuffin covered the function so well :), I thought it'd be helpful to cover the aesthetic.FUNCTIONAL DESIGN (w/details comparing the SoyaPower Plus):If you have small children or others who are not aware of the dangers of steaming hot things, the SoyaPower Plus might be a better option for you, as it has a thermoplastic layer on the outside (which insulates the hot stainless pitcher from the outside), and the top latches to the bottom. The G3 gets very hot on the outside (unless you're making raw milks) and there is nothing "attaching" it to the pitcher part. Only gravity holds it down. Works fine for us. And, as MacGuffin mentioned, be sure the "nub" is over the handle, so the "switch" to turn it on can be activated. (There's a little "pole" that slides into a hole to tell the machine it's properly seated). I was worried becuase my machine head rattled a little, but it's just the movable switch part. When it is mounted, there's no rattle. The rattle only happens when you "shake" the unit, anyway.I thought the top handle on the SpoyaPower Plus was great, but I think the top handle on the SoyaJoy G3 is even better. It's integrated, has a cushioned rubbery bumpy pad on the inside and it really makes it easy to "handle" and maneuver the machine head. The top is rounded, so as MacGuffin said, no top storage. We use ours too often to store anything on top, so again, no bother to us.I have also noticed that the pitcher handle on the G3 affords more finger room, between it and the pitcher. There is a plastic area to protect knuckles, but if you found the SoyaPower Plus to have a small handle gap, you will be happy to know the G3's gap is considerably larger.ACCESSORIES:All of the accessory parts that come with the SoyaPower Plus (pitcher, cleaning brush, scrubbie, filter, measuring cup, & power cord) are the same as what's included in this G3 (well, mine were, anyway). The G3 (like the Plus), comes with a little instruction manual that is very helpful. TIP: do not plug it in without water in the pitcher - it will just beep continuously. I tried to see the cool lights before making any milk and I heard a steady beep, which worried me, until I read the handy-dandy troubleshooting chart in the little book (glad to know I wasn't the only one!).The one downside I can see to the G3 is that it does not come with the wonderful recipe book that the SoyaPower Plus came with. This is certainly not a deal-breaker, as it seems the recipes are available on their website (do a google search for Sanlinx and you will see their site at the top of a page with a direct link to their recipes). We've tried the Okara Chikn Strips - Yummy!MILK OPTIONS:We have made both cooked soymilks and raw nutmilks in the G3. My favorite is a recipe using almonds, cashews, walnuts, and raw shelled hempseed. It's soooo good and the "mash" that you get is fantastic! I eat it plain, while my fiancee likes to add a bit of cinnamon, some raisins, etc. It makes delicious milks with just almonds or almonds & a touch of honey, too!BASIC STEPS FOR MAKING MILK:It's so easy to do: soak & rinse beans or nuts as needed; pour water to desired line (the G3 actually tells you the measurement of the two lines, instead of a "more" and a "less" guestimation.); then add soaked & rinsed nuts/beans; sit machinehead on the top (on the G3, there are no clips holding it down - no matter to me); plug power cord into machine and then into the wall; be mesmerized by glowing blue LEDs; choose appropriate function & push that button; wait; strain twice (our preference); chill if needed; enjoy! Making and waiting times depend on what you're making the milks from and if it's raw (which takes less time). Clean-up is also very easy.CLEAN UP:To save space, I have posted the details of our clean-up process in the COMMENTS section of this review. It is currently on page 4, third comment from the top.TASTE:For soymilk, I like it ever-so slightly warm and completely plain. It's DELICIOUS! Another reviewer of the Sanlinx products said theirs had an "eggy" smell. Ours (using the Laura beans) does smell faintly like hard-boiled eggs (the second batch, more-so). It wasn't that bad and I actually think it is a nice smell. The experience reminds me of an egg-cream, or thin egg-nog. We don't eat eggs here in the house, but from my memory, I think it's similar. Either way, it's really yummy and smooth. I also tried it with a squirt of chocolate syrup and it was tasty! He likes it with a touch of Vanilla Extract (which I thought was gross). Good thing I bought two frigoverre's! *See other TIPS below*COST/SAVINGS:We estimate the cost to be around $.50 per liter using the laura soybeans. We were paying $2 per liter for organic unsweetened soymilk at our local wegmans (love that place, too!). We bought about 5 liters per week. According to our math, at current usage levels, it will take about 5 months for the cost of the SoyaJoy G3 and 13 lbs of Laura soybeans (which should last about 3 months for our use) to "pay for themselves". After that, it's a savings of $7.50 per week (assuming soybeans stay their current cost), plus the soymilk is so much fresher and tastier and there's not so much worry about Aluminum-lined TetraPaks, Hexane-extracted soymilk, running out of soymilk (all the time) or all that trash (why aren't tetrapaks recyclable??)! Someday, we hope to power our house with solar and we'll have a sun-powered SoyaJoy G3! We're really looking forward to experimenting more with rice, quinoa, peanuts, oats, barley, & even the soup options! And, as a bonus, we get this okara stuff that seems to be super useful! There's even a recipe for Okara Brownies & an Okara Facial! We made vegan Okara Chick'n Cutlets with our 1st batch - YUMMY!NOTE: After I did these calculations, I realized the Laura Soybeans are NOT organic; they are, however, NON-GMO. I hear that pesticide use on soy crops is actually pretty light, though. I have not yet looked into this, myself, but I wanted to mention it.TIPS:- clean the machine before you use it for the 1st time: a drop of dishsoap and water filled to the fill line, turn the machine one and it will "clean" itself. haven't tried this post-milk, however.- if you don't already filter your water, consider it. We use the Mavea Pitcher & filters (bought on amazon) - better water = better milk.- think about buying two 1L hermetically sealed frigoverre glass jars (you can keep a new batch sealed while you finish a previous batch; or, you can have two different "milks" in the fridge at once) - plus, you can seal them and shake, if needed.- we have also considered using 1Qt glass widemouth (personal preference) mason jars with the plastic lids (they should be airtight (some leak), the metal are not, if not canning) - this can hold a back-up batch, too- use a tea strainer (or a fine mesh) as a second straining (we catch a lot more okara this way).- a dash of Vanilla Extract was a bit too bitter for me. Cutting it with a small squirt of raw agave was just the right "fix" (but made the milk sweeter than I prefer)- I found the 13lb laura soybeans, with shipping, to be less expensive than other beans in the other places I looked (sadly, Laura are not organic, and there are no bulk soybeans at wegmans)- if you buy soybeans in bulk, look for reusable produce bags (I bought mine here on amazon).- we bought a glass marking pen here on amazon to mark the "flavor" and "born on date" on the frigoverre jars - very helpful (& available at Staples, for way less $)!- the milk (in our experience) lasts 3-5 days, depending on the ingredients and how often you open the container, etc. I read that boil-sterilizing the pitchers & accessories helps milk to last longer, but I have not tried that. We use a UV lamp, bought here on Amazon. - Sept 2012: NEW TIP: for taking "milk" on the go, I pour it into a Bodum Portable French Press, like this one: Bodum Stainless Steel Vacuum Travel Press Coffee Maker with Orange Silicone Grip, 16-Ounce - it keeps it cool (or warm, if you prefer) and if you pour the milk in, prior to inserting & pushing the plunger down, it will further filter the pulp (if you want a more pulp-free milk). And remember, take time to enjoy the new milks you'll create!I rely on reviews here at Amazon to help me make informed buying choices. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. If you voted this as helpful, I Thank You! :)

5A Most Worthy Successor
By MacGuffin
I'm very proud to be the first Amazon reviewer of the new Soyajoy G3 Soy Milk Maker. I've been a happy SoyaPower owner (not the Plus--mine is the previous generation) for a number of years but I couldn't resist the opportunity to test-drive the latest technology and as good as my SoyaPower is, this is even better. The G3 utilizes a recent upgrade in grinding technology, the patented Tornado Funnel. This replaces the filter basket found in earlier Sanlinx releases (including mine), although it's also found in the SoyaPower Plus. Basically, a stainless steel cone fits over the blade shaft and creates a tight vortex so that virtually nothing escapes; as well as the filter basket worked, it wasn't uncommon to find an unprocessed bean or seed or two, besides which the basket is MUCH more difficult to clean than the new strainer. I have yet to see this occur with the G3--the resulting okara is completely and consistently ground. In addition, you can up the amount of dry matter to a full 6 ounces which means you can make even richer milk than the previous models, especially if, like me, you prefer to use the minimum amount of water. As good as my previous milk was, this manages to trump it.The G3 also provides somewhat longer processing times (most of them cooking, I think) that benefit the quality of the milk; it seems to have a somewhat greater depth of flavor than that made with my SoyaPower. In addition, the grinding modes for the G3 are brand new and exclusive to it--they are "BEANS/NUTS," "GRAINS/SEEDS" (for when the proportion of beans is exceeded by that of grains/seeds), "SOUP/PASTE" (this is the one you want for rice milk), and "RAW/JUICE" (this is a cold cycle and is also for raw nut milks). Quite a few recipes are included, including some excellent ones by my buddy Vickilynn Haycraft of Real Food Living fame. The only cycle I haven't played with yet is the last one; I have a Vitamix and a juicer so it's a little extraneous for my purposes although at some point I'll give it a try and update this review. The other cycles produce beautiful cooked milks. The G3 comes with a heat-proof plastic pitcher, a very fine strainer (does an excellent job, BTW), a few utensils for cleaning, a measuring cup, a sample of Laura soybeans, and instructions and recipes. I kinda prefer the measuring cup that came with my SoyaPower; it holds 4½ oz. and the new one holds 3½--each cup is off a standard ½ cup measure by a tablespoon. Also, I prefer my SoyaPower's appearance, the fact that its exterior is heat-resistant--you have to be careful with the G3--and that it locks. I also like that the top is flat because I can put my tea tools on it when it's not in use (hey, counter space is at a premium here). But to tell you the truth, I don't think I'll be using my SoyaPower now because I prefer what I can do with the G3. Given how well the older models perform, I can't advise current owners whether or not they should update but it's something to at least consider if you can afford it.If I'm not mistaken, the G3, like the other Sanlinx models, is available with different warranty options and prices reflect this so bear it in mind if one price seems considerably different than another. Although I've never had a problem with either of my machines, I've come to know Wendy at Sanlinx and I can assure you that this company is committed to the sale of quality appliances and supporting their customer base. I'm not a fan of Chinese-made products in general but my Sanlinx machines have been notable exceptions; they perform exactly as advertised and so far, my first is long-lived (quality control is obviously taken seriously). Bottom line: I didn't think my SoyaPower could be improved upon but it has been (twice--the SoyaPower Plus improves on it as well). Soy milk makers make life easy for those who want to make their own because they simultaneously cook and grind the beans/grain; even if using a Vitamix, the beans have to be cooked first. This is as easy as can be and is programmed to cook for the optimal period of time at the correct temperature.A few caveats: if you expect to duplicate commercial milks, you're likely to be disappointed. However, the beauty of the G3 is that not only are the add-ins to your taste and at your discretion (you can get very creative if you're of a mind), you know exactly what they are. And don't think that what you make at home can't be at least, if not more, delicious than what you've been buying--it just won't be identical. Making your own is also more work than throwing a carton into your grocery basket, however, the machine pays for itself very quickly and if you have children, you can make it a family activity (and believe me, kids really respond to fresh, warm soy milk once it has been flavored and sweetened a bit--my best friend's fussy little one loves warm soy milk the way I make it).If you've been considering making your own bean- or grain-based milks, this is what you want; I think you can even make congee for breakfast in it! HIGHEST recommendation. :)

5Better than a pet walker
By Sara Lorrai
Had to teach my dog to go thru the pet door, built one out of cardboard and always made a game of it. I was determined to have him go out "as needed." Now he does and we are both very happy. PetSafe is well made, durable; I never put the "cap" over the flap so he always has access, yet in the winter dispite my not closing the flap it is still a pretty good insulator.
