5Most Versatile Envelope Filter Pedal
By Joweejojo
As a filter junkie, I was a little skeptic of an all digital envelope filter. Can it sound like an analog filter? Can it respond to dynamics like an analog filter? The answer to those questions is YES. It is the most versatile envelope filter pedal on the market today. There are so many sounds waiting to be discovered within this unit, there's just not enough time in a day. From subtle to extreme and everything in between, Bootsy would be proud.Solid construction, quiet bypass switching and super quiet operation (no background noise), along with the best customer service makes for an unbeatable combo. Besides, it purple...you gotta love that.

5Great filter
By Christopher Graham
I can echo what most of the other reviewers say. This is a great filter pedal that comes with a lot more pros than cons. First, consider the extremely excellent price, then consider the wealth of filtering options, most of which sound excellent. Note this filter has a really quick reset time so you can get some extremely creative sounds by placing it after a tremolo/slicer as it will quickly reset the envelope. You can also increase the fun of this filter via a DIY expression pedal modification which Source Audio will provide via PDF directions if you contact them which lets you control the frequency point via an expression pedal so you can get those slow mwaahhh filter sweeps.Similar to what some other reviewers said, while this filter is hands down the best bang for the buck I do wish it had more features. Hopefully LFO, ASDR, more filter controls, MIDI, etc. get provided in a PRO model if they release one. But I don't slight the filter for not having those at this price point.

5An extremely versatile filter with high quality sound
By Bryan R. Tyler
I've been in possession of my Source Audio BEF for several months now, so I've had ample time to get to know it. I've used many filters over the years, and every one has its own lists of positives and negatives. The Source Audio brings the biggest list of positives and the smallest amount of negatives of any I've tried. It's the most versatile bass envelope filter out there- the multi-position rotary knob acts as a selector for differing types of envelope filters, and each of the three modifier knobs can alter each of these effects quite a bit. This pedal isn't a jack-of-all-trades, master of none; each of the envelope effects sound REALLY good. There are some really unique envelope effects that you won't find on any other pedal filter, and the BEF excels at both these and standard envelope filter effects. It's very wet and greasy filter, yet the resonance has some sort of limiting effect that keeps away some of the speaker-frying high and low spikes that are common to resonant filters. You can get a great, usable sound very quickly out of any of the presets. I can't begin to go into all the different sounds this can make- I have made a few video demos that cover several of them on YouTube that you may want to check out:[...]The only negatives I can say about the pedal would be that I'd like to have an extra knob or two- possibly to control low/band/high pass options or perhaps a variable LFO rate like you can find on the (also great) Source Audio Tri Mod Wah. The pedal is also fairly long; considering that this is basically a multieffect, I can't really complain though. The extra length is needed to get a footswitch on there. They do try to save space by putting all the jack on the top of the unit as well.Overall, if versatility and great sound is what you're looking for in an envelope filter, this pedal would be my suggestion. As I said, I like a lot of different filters, but if you're looking for one that successfully cops a wide variety of tones, this is the one.
