Serves its purpose

I bought this for my HD Street Bob since I didn't want to mess with saddlebag supports, relocating the rear lights, and finding something to fit around the Dyna's shocks. The base straps easily around the passenger seat via nylon web straps and D rings. The top of the base is velcro, which connects to velcro on the bottom of the bag. Three straps from the base also attach to the bag (two in the front of the bag right behind the driver and one in the rear). It took me awhile to get comfortable with this setup because the bag has a lot of side-to-side movement, since there's nothing securing it on the sides. My main issue is storage area. I have a 14" laptop which I keep in a padded sleeve. This has to be wedged into the bag to fit and I have to close it as one would an over-stuffed suitcase. I won't, however, call this a flaw or a complaint, as I should have read the description more carefully--just be aware if you're using it for commuting. When I'm not carrying my laptop it fits my glasses case, iphone, cold-weather stuff, and lunch easily (actually, it holds everything except the cold-weather shirt/gloves even with the laptop). And on weekends when I want to revert to the bobber look of the FXDB, the bag comes off in three seconds (I keep the base on when I don't have passengers as I have to remove the seat to put it back on).

Great altenative to saddlebags-your back will thank you

I ride a bike nearly every day year round and often take longer trips to visit family on the weekends. There are a lot of things you can change on a mid-size bike like a Shadow RS to make it more viable as an every day vehicle and this is one of them. I had been considering saddle bags for months and the only thing holding me back was price. At 1/2 to 1/3 the price of saddle bags and brackets, this was a no brainer. Being a smallish bike, I hardly ever use my back seat but this actually seems to come off fairly easily if you do. There's actually a detachable part that straps to the bike seat and the bag itself fastens to that. You could easily seat a passenger on top of the detachable portion with no loss of comfort. This means you can remove your tail bag without unfastening the lower portion from the seat, which requires no tools and about sixty seconds of effort.It has lots of nice compartments and even an attached rain cover in the small compartment on the front. Once you fasten this thing down, it is very steady and even performs well as a back rest. If you choose to wear a back pack to supplement your storage, it will most likely sit on top of the tail bag, taking the weight off your back on long rides. The only thing I don't like about it is that I usually swing my leg over the back of my bike and now it's a little more awkward with the increased height. This was expected and is far outweighed by the functionality of the bag. It is also very nice to be able to leave common less valuable items in the bag such as night time glasses, extra gloves, flashlights, etc. I can even fit my bike cover in the larger compartment if I really want. Definitely recommend.Update:I do not recommend leaving items like gloves in this bag out in the weather. It is not 100% waterproof and my spare gloves actually started to grow mold. Glasses and waterproof flashlights are fine but I'd avoid porous fabrics. Otherwise, no issues to date.
