Dodgy workmanship and very poor customer service

I had my eye on this watch for several months before the price came down to a level I thought I could justify to myself. The watch was a lot larger than I expected when it arrive and very heavy. I love the look of it and it keeps great time and has proven to be reasonably resistant to everyday knocks and bumps although the black tachymetre bezel does scratch easily compared to the rest of the watch.Here is why I give it such a low rating. Within 6 months of owning the watch it stopped dead. The balance arm showed no signs of life.First I contacted Tissot to make use of their 2 year international warranty (One of my buying decisions) Tissot flatly refused to offer any assistance because the warranty card was not stamped by an authorised Tissot Dealer. How this has anything to do with the fact that their product failed is beyond me, they have a responsibility to ensure their product is manufacturers defect free.Next I tried Amazons online assistance and was informed that this was a case for Amazon Jewellery, the assistant told me she would refer the case to Amazon Jewellery and I would hear back from them shortly. When I did not hear back after 4 weeks I took the watch to my local watch repairer who found that the cause of the problem was a poorly made case clip and had snapped and jammed the mechanism. He repaired and pressure tested and charged me $40 so it was not an expensive exercise in the end.The point is, Tissot should have built the watch better and provided support for a customer who has spent $1000 on this product plus hundreds on other Tissot watches over the years and Amazon should have provided better support as well.I for one will not purchase another Tissot or Swatch company product again.

This is my first Tissot and I loved the watch until about a month after I bought it (directly from Amazon) when it stopped running. It would not wind manually and the rotor appeared locked. After a few shakes the rotor began to spin but it made an odd sound and still did not wind the watch. I had not dropped it or banged it or anything like that so I have no idea what happened. I own about a dozen automatic watches ranging in price from $100-$1,200 and have never had an issue with any of them not working (I also didn't hit the reset button on the chrono while it was running...I know better). I had read a review of this exact watch on Amazon stating the second hand had fallen off and my first thought was that someone must have been rough with it but I can attest to the fact that this watch died on me after less than a month with no provocation (on my part) that I'm aware of.Personally, I think the watch is poorly packaged by the manufacturer as it was loose in it's box upon arrival (as was the replacement watch I eventually got). Amazon doesn't help the issue by placing the box in it's own cardboard box and only placing bubble-wrap on one side of it (I informed Amazon of this).Kudos, however, to Amazon who sent out an identical replacement watch almost immediately. As I mentioned, it too was loose in it's box and probably got banged around (the chrono was running when I opened the box) so I'm hoping this doesn't develop any issues too.Overall the watch itself is great. It's the biggest and heaviest watch I own, but comfortable at the same time. I would have given this watch 4 or 5 stars but having it die so quickly is unacceptable. One of the stars I am giving is definitely for Amazon's service. I will update this review in a few months and let you know if it's still (hopefully) running.UPDATE: Mar. 9, 2012So far so good. I wear the watch almost everyday and have had no issues. Hopefully my previous watch was a fluke.I get more compliments, btw, on this watch than any other I own...I love it.FINAL UPDATE: Apr. 18, 2012Replacement watch also failed. Will never purchase a Tissot again. 1 star for the aesthetics of the watch and another star for Amazon's (once again) great service.

looks and feels great. my first expensive[to me] watch. started out being a little heavy for me,but acclimated to it .don,t even notice it now.people have noticed,and inquired already...
