Constructed with a combination of Radio Frequency welding at the top of the carrier and traditional stitching at the front corners and the zipper flap, this car top carrier is recommended when heavy rain is not expected frequently. Even though the EXPLORER cargo carrier uses stitching on the corners and along the zipper flap, water protection is excellent, since any possible moisture wicking through the needle holes is minimized by a double folded, double stitched manufacturing process.
The material used in the RoofBag is 18-oz tight-knit polyester fabric, which has been double-coated with vinyl. Besides being totally waterproof, this material is very tough and durable. It is treated to resist the damaging effect of UV rays. It won't fade or deteriorate, even with constant exposure to the sun.

Awesome roof bag!

We just moved from Missouri to Washington and we packed tons of clothes and shoes in this bag. We had it stuffed full and were on the road for 7 days. It held up great! It did not leak in the rain and it never budged on our roof! I would highly recommend this roofbag!

I moved across the country with my 15-year-old car packed to the gills. I'm sure I ruined my suspension.The RoofBag didn't budge more than an inch after 2,000 miles. It is a great way to add more cargo space to your car.I think you only need a rubber mat under it if you don't want any scratches on your paint, but if your car isold don't worry about a mat. It's easy to load up alone as long as you have a step stool to reach your roof.I'm really glad I got it. Works just fine without a roof rack.

Does the job when you have no luggage rack

We purchased the 15 cubic ft Explorer model in black and the roof mat directly from Roofbag's website. We do not have a luggage rack on our van, and we needed more space to take multiple family members on a beach trip. It worked surprisingly well. It took some adjusting during the installation process because of the sliding doors on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan - we ended up putting both straps through the sliding doors at the very front and very back of the door tracks. Sometimes the front strap would "confuse" our automatic doors and they would not close, but that was resolved by closing the doors manually. We filled it with two large suitcases, a child's suitcase, three sports chairs, two beach umbrellas, a canvas bag, and two boogie boards. I did have to stand on the rear tires to close the zippers, but I'm kind of short. Noticed no drag until we hit 55 mph, but it was still negligible. The only sound was some extra wind/road noise, and on the way back the end of a strap started hitting the roof, but that was resolved by tying it around itself again. All in all a good purchase. I can't rate the waterproofing, it only drizzled very slightly on the way back home.
