Product Description

HeatTrak's Industrial Snow-Melting Stair Mat melts snow on contact to keep your stairs safe and snow-free all winter long. It is the safe and easy way to help prevent winter slips and falls - without salt or shoveling. Just turn the mat on when snow starts to fall, and watch even the heaviest snow melt - up to 2 inches an hour. In contrast to the HeatTrak Residential Products which are made exclusively for home use, the Industrial products are intended for commercial or industrial facilities. These products are ideal for hospitals, universities, restaurants, office buildings, and other areas with heavy foot traffic. The Industrial Snow-Melting Stair Mat is waterproof and designed to be left outside all winter long. It is built with an electrically operated heating element sandwiched between two protective surfaces of reinforced SBR rubber, making it as durable as automobile tires and allowing it to endure harsh wear. Each Industrial Stair Mat has watertight connector cables enabling it to connect to additional Industrial Stair Mats. Up to 13 amps can be connected on a single Power Unit (sold separately). Each set of HRT11-36 Industrial Stair Mats requires one HeatTrak Power Unit (model HR-P) to connect the system to a 120V electrical outlet. Without the Power Unit, your mats won't work. 5Amazing product. Worked like a charm
By LL
Found the residential version of this product too flimsy. These "industrial" ones worked perfectly. A lot more money than the residential version, but if you constantly have icy, slippery steps in the winter, this is the solution. Stays put, keeps the steps clear and provides good traction. Our mail carrier is very pleased!

5Bye Bye ICE
By A fair judge
Being that my front porch and stairs do not get any sun in the winter months and ice up terribly I had to combat mother nature with this fine solution. I highly recommend this product. The only concern is that the plug takes up a lot of room on the outlet (due to build in circuit breaker) and for next year I will be installing a four outlet (quad) instead of the two that I have now. I also purchased the door mat and its plug is also big due to it having a circuit breaker within the plug for safety. Also be aware that picture of the door mat misrepresents what you get. There is no black boarder around the mat. All in all both work well and now my steps and area in front of the door are safe for everyone for all future winters. Price is high, but the price of falling and breaking a hip or anything else is higher! Stay warm.New Jersey

5Great idea, great product
By L. Woo
I built a house in New England in 2000 and thought about heating the front steps and walkway, but decided against it (high building costs, energy costs too high). I regretted it since most winters rendered the front door useless due to ice buildup on the steps and walkway (well, it was at least dangerous). I tried using salt and that resulted in a $500 bill repairing the brick steps. This winter (January 2011), after spending literally hours chiseling away 3-4 inches of ice by hand on the front steps, I found these HeatTrak stair mats (COMMERCIAL version) and decided to give them a try. To my pleasure, they completely eliminated the ice problem on the steps! This was one of the worst winters in New England.I then decided to additionally purchase the RESIDENTIAL heated walkway mats, which connect to the COMMERCIAL stair treads. Just to note, the COMMERCIAL heated walkway mats do not connect the the COMMERCIAL stair treads (probably due to power consumption limitations) and require separate circuits.Challenges: Sizing of electrical power becomes a calculation (15 amps vs 20 amps, 120 volts vs 240 volts, total watts, and GFCI trigger sensitivity). You might have to call HeatTrak support to get the right answers and even then you have to talk to the right guy (the first guy I talked to got it wrong). Also, the extender cords between stair treads could be a an inch or two longer. I'd attach a picture, but I am not sure how to do that.Bottom line: Expensive, but worth it to me. They worked well this winter (hopefully they will last). Highly recommended.
