I am a police officer and I purchased this weaponlight for my home defense shotgun. Mounted it on my Mossberg 590A1 using basic tools and a little help from YouTube. There are some videos online that show you a great nondestructive way to remove the original handguard. This grip is an improvement over the original forend based solely on feel. It also provides a ready way to illuminate any potential threats/targets. It has multiple switching options, as well as a system lockout so you don't accidentally activate the light when you don't want it too. Very useful for preserving battery life in daytime, or for transport inside a weapon case. One thing to note on my shotgun is that the bayonet lug/sling mount that hangs down under the mag tube doesn't interfere with the light. It is a tight fit, with very little clearance between the light bezel and the bayonet lug. Just looking, you would swear that the light was going to hit, but it doens't (only a mm or so of clearance, but enough). Aside from some slight rubbing that affects the finish of the light and lug, there are no problems caused by this. It seems to be designed with the bayonet lug in mind since the fit is just enough to clear without inhibiting function at all. If you want to avoid the possibility of this being an issue or want to avoid having some finish wear to the light bezel, then get the 1 battery version as it will not extend far enough to touch at all.As always, surefire makes another great product

By matthew f buckner
I ordered the Surefire 623LMG for my Mossberg 500 Persuader. I wanted to outfit my gun with a tactical light that was weather resistant and able to handle the shock waves delivered by 12 gauge rounds. I also wanted something that I could use at an intuitive level without any wires or cables cluttering my working environment. This light seemed to fit the bill on all accounts. Although a bit pricey, Surefire offers a lifetime warranty on most of the components, which is somewhat reassuring since I don't see this company going anywhere but up!OVERVIEW:The forend is very well packaged in a black cardboard box with instructions, company advertisements, two Surefire CR123A batteries, and a metal plate that can be placed partially over the touch pad to reduce the chances of accidentally touching it in a nighttime concealment situation. The instructions are sort of vague. The manufacturer provides an exploded diagram of an "all senario" hybridized shotgun comprised of the feature sets of several models. You are informed that your gun must be broken down (as you would to clean it) in order to replace the forend since it is recommended you remove the existing forend with the guide rails attached. Beyond that, you are asked to refer to your shotgun owner's manual for details. Fortunately I was able to find instructions on replacing a Mossberg forend on You Tube!INSTALLATION:It seemed intimidating at first but it was actually quite easy. After breaking down the gun, I removed the forend retaining ring with a UTG Universal forend wrench available here on Amazon.com. Then I simply gripped the rails close to the forend body with one hand and the forend body itself with the other and firmly twisted right to left and back on the housing that secures the rails to the inner steel tube running through the forend. The tube loosened up quickly and the stock forend slid right off. Then you just slip the Surefire forend on the tube, push it snug, and reinstall everything. (15 minutes average)REVIEW:Once installed, the forend does add slightly noticeable weight to the gun but nothing unmanageable. The grip on the underside of the forend feels very comfortable in the hand and all controls are easy to reach. The 200 lumen light is like a torch! The throw is very strong and lights up my yard quite well.I had my wife aim the light at me from 20 feet and it was BLINDING!Overall, I have to give this product five stars. It is well built and the warranty is excellent. You won't be disappointed.Pros: Well built, comfortable to grip, weather resistant, excellent beam, nice warranty.Cons: Pricey , slightly heavier than your average forend, poor instructions.RECOMMENDATIONS:a.)Use a proper forend wrench for the retaining ring (UTG Universal).b.)Remove inner steel tube from original forend with a firm twisting motion while pulling.c.)Don't waste your time and money on cheaper lights that mount on the magazine tube. This light was engineered for one purpose.
