The best....

I recently bought PM45 from Harris although it was direct and not through Amazon (is that OK for the review?) and am super happy. While trying to make a decision on what plasma to buy I was generally disappointed by the lack of info on the web. I noticed there weren't any reviews here and thought I should chime in.So let me start at the beginning, Harris is easy to deal with, has about the best price on the web and shipped the same day. Naturally something this big went ground but it got to me in AZ from Ohio surprisingly quick. The unit shipped in it's factory box which was plenty sturdy and the packaging was such that the box would have to be completely wrecked before you would have to worry about the contents.As far as the unit itself, Hypertherm is generally considered the best. My biggest decision going in was if I was willing to spend the extra over the other brands. The fact that they are a US company, built mostly here and have such a cool company culture was huge for me. Additionally I have read on various forums that their customer service is great and consumables are readily available.Hypertherm has more patents for plasma cutting than any other company and build OEM parts for Miller even. The fit and finish of the machine is beautiful. It is every bit as good as say my Miller mig welder which is generally considered to be top of the line in that field.I'm sad to say I can't yet do a full review of the machines capability but will update after I have more hours logged on it. I have used it for some light duty so far and naturally it cuts through thin steel like butter. Based off my research I expect this to continue all the way through to the steels that are at the machines limit. Everything I read suggests Hypertherm tends to be very conservative with their capability claims, rather than optimistic like others.A few thoughts.... I have a newer Husky brand air compressor, only 4.3 SCFM and it is just not enough. I knew this going in but have to make do with what I have for now. Be prepared to wait on the compressor if you don't have a 'real' one.I read a ton on the importance of clean air and struggled with how much I wanted to spend on an in-line air filter. Here in the high desert we don't get much moisture but I still want to protect my investment. Looking at the $180 Hypertherm filter I thought I would save some cash and buy a Home Depot filter but am questioning my decision. By the time I bought the cheap-o unit, all the fittings and realizes I still don't have a wall mount for it, I kind of wish I just bought the Hypertherm and got it over with. I'm probably $50 into a piece of crap filter already.I will try to add on to this review over time. Hopefully I will have great things to say about the machine but also share my experience with the air compressor / filter set-up.

I have been using this torch for quite a while now. We cut over a half mile of 6mm plate with this torch and used only 2 tips.
