Get out your hot glue gun!

My four year old son is crazy for pirates and he adores the detail and design of the pirate island. We have the pirate ship as well and these toys can occupy his attention for hours. When we got them, we found that they couldn't stand up to even his gentle play. With the slightest bump, the watch tower crashed down or the drawbridge broke. I finally took out the hot glue gun and glued everything in place. Ta-da! Now, he plays with it quite happily. Unfortunately, we can't fold or collapse the island for storage and it is a BIG toy. The problem here is that the pirate theme really appeals to the 4 to 7 age range, but this toy can't hold up to the play the young kids can dish out.

It's a fun toy...when it's assembled

I bought this toy from Toys R Us when they had it for half price. The pieces themselves are very sturdy, and the two towers are big enough that my two kids can play together without getting in each others way. It didn't take too long to put together.My only problem with this toy is that the pieces kind of slide into each other...but they also slide right out of each other if you know what I mean. After less than an hour of play, I find that the kids have walked away from it because it has fallen apart. You have to be careful not to jar it when playing and my kids (8&5) are not this careful. I have entertained the idea of superglue-ing it together and leaving it assembled on my son's train table but I haven't followed through on that yet. On the bright side, I have become a pro at assembling it without the instructions!

Awesome quality, tons of fun, needs minimal hot glue!

My 3 older children are ages 7,5 and 4. They can all play with this together which is amazing !! Fits with Jake, scooby doo and veggie tales pirate figures.Instructions were horrible but we got it together in less than an hour by looking at the pictures on the box (surrounded by 4 kids lol).We hot glued some parts but overall it's really sturdy and great quality.I got this on clearance at toys r us for less than $50... Well worth the price if you have room for such a big toy!!!
