Just buy a complete set and be done with it

For better or worse, XZN fasteners are a part of German car life. I was on the fence between two options for tools to deal with them. One was this set; the other was buying a much cheaper set, then purchasing a separate security bit for my Passat's transmission drain plug for about $15 additional. In the end, I am happy to have chosen the more complete set for a few dollars more.First and foremost, the finish and hardness of the sockets seems quite good, though I need to qualify that by saying I have only used them so far for non-critical fasteners that haven't been rusted in. Second, the 3 largest bits in this set are compatible with triple square security plugs, so I am to some degree future-proofed (compared to the cheaper VIM set, there is an additional 18 mm security socket, as well). Third, I was actually surprised by how much I liked the mounting "stick" (sells separately for about $14) on which the set comes. It's nicely anodized aluminum, with inset magnets and pins to keep everything together. As it comes, the set is secure, easily tossed into my socket tool box and doesn't take up a prohibitive amount of room there.

My husband needed one of these in order to make repairs to his 2006 VW Jetta. He was so happy to have gotten the set, because once he had the first part removed he discovered that he needed a different size for the next part. He reported that these are very good quality (and he is pretty fussy) and overall a good buy.
