By Peter Taylor
These softshell pants are suitable for a wide range of backcountry adventures, plus they look good for sporty-casual wear.I have worn them hiking and rock climbing. They are practical and appear to be hardwearing (limited use so far). The front, back and leg pockets all provide very good venting, due to their mesh interiors. Combined with the very breathable fabric, I did not feel uncomfortable or overheated in direct sun on a warm day.Have seen these described as cold weather pants relative to other softshells. But although they are certainly heavier duty than summer-specific pants, they have little insulation value and do little more than block the weather. I certainly felt the cold while standing in on a mountain top in a freezing wind, but was grateful for the effective windblocking provided by the fabric. Plenty of room to wear thermal underwear with these pants.Fabric is stretchy. Cut is more voluminous than athletic. Leg seam long enough that they bunch at ankles for me, and I'm a pretty standard medium fit for most pants. But the fit could pass for fashionable rather than oversized. It's just that you would not want to wear crampons with these pants without gaiters; the tripping hazard would be high.Due to stretchiness, breathability and softness of fabric, these are nice to wear just slothing around the house. One fault they may develop into a problem is that a pocket zip disengaged when I opened it, as in, one row of teeth came off the slider. As the zips have no bottom-stop, it was a pain to reconnect the teeth. Has not repeated, but seems inevitable that it will and that the zip will eventually fail.Overall, these are more a casual pant than a technical pant, but that makes them great for all day wear from crag to pub. Will probably find a place in my pack for multi-day tramping (hiking) expeditions (instead of waterproof overpants), although the lighter-weight Outdoor Research Ferrosi pants would also be contender with a trade-off on weather-proofness Outdoor Research Men's Ferrosi Pants.

By William S. Mehojah
I sized these pants like I size my jeans and they fit perfectly. You can really tell the quality in this softshell as soon as you pick them up. They have a great balance of breathability and win resistance. A mid weight baselayer fits perfectly underneath without bunching up, and the belt keeps the pants where they need to be. Excellent product from Mamut!

First pair of Mammut pants and they are very comfortable, the stretch fabric is great. These pants also stay pretty clean, you can brush most debris/dirt right off, assuming its dry.
