Now this is Surround Sound !

Thirty days ago I started putting together my first new audio system in over twenty years. Amazon kicked off the project with a Daily Deal on the Klipsch HD 300 Compact 5.1 speaker set bundled with the Marantz SR5005 AVR. I also ordered the OPPO BDP-93 Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player.Setup in a dedicated 16' x 12' "media room" I listened and watched for a week. The Klipsch center and surround speakers just didn't have the sound I was expecting. The highs were good but the mid-range was lacking to my ears. A trip to the local Best Buy yielded a pair of Polk Audio TSi400 floor standing speakers. I brought them home and gave a listen but exchanged them the following week for a pair of Definitive Technology BP-8020ST floor standing speakers. These sounded great in the store and even better at home. They were over my budget but by that time I'd decided to stretch the budget and just go for the sound I wanted. A few days later I was back at Best Buy for a Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 center speaker.In the meantime my copy of Robert Harley's "Introductory Guide to High-Performance Audio Systems: Stereo - Surround Sound - Home Theater", arrived from Amzon. He recommends "dipolar or bipolar" surround sound speakers and the Definitive Technology website recommends their SR-8040BPs to go with the BP-8020STs floor standers (which are bipolar as well). Which is how I came to order these speakers from Amazon and can report that I'm thrilled with the results. Mounted six feet above the floor and three feet from the rear wall (inline with my ears) they reflect clear and full range sound against to the front and rear walls. With the Klipsch speakers I could hear each speaker and it's position in the room. With the SR-8040BP speakers I clearly hear each sound, voice, or instrument but direction is much less defined - if that makes sense.Now my system is all Definitive Technology and the Klipsch is packed away. I went from nothing to 7.1 then down to 5.2 (each of the BP-8020ST floor standers has a 150 watt sub-woofer) and have found the sound I was looking for. Speakers are very subjective, so listen to as many can before buying and Good Hunting!

I have this speaker pared with the BP-8040ST speakers as my Front Left and Right channel, The CS-8040HD as Center Channel, and two of these for my surround. I also have these connected to the Pioneer Elite SC-37. The sound is absolutely astounding. I upgraded to these from a Bose Acoustimass 6 speaker system and these speakers blow them away. The highs and mid-range are very crisp and clear with the bass being tight but yet rumbles when needed for those explosive movie scenes. With the Bipolar technology that Definitive incorporates, it really fills the room which eliminates the "Sweet Spot" in my home theater setup.I am a Definitive Tech fan for life!

We bought 5 Definitive Technology speakers for the tv in the family room back in February. We connected the floor speakers and sub woofer right away and loved the sound. Needing to run wires in the attic, we didn't get around to the surround speakers until recently. One didn't work. It was too late to return it to Amazon so I called the company and they were great. Chet told my husband he could take off the back to check for a loose wire. No loose wire. The company agreed to replace the speaker.We were very impressed with their excellent service.We definitely recommend these speakers.Here's an update on our returned speaker. Definitive Technology surprised us by how fast they got a replacement to us.The surround speakers are now working and WOW! The sound in our family room is fantastic!Great speakers. Great company.
