For a traditional snowshoeing experience

Last year I took a snowshoeing class (a class seems somewhat ironic since "if you can walk, you can snowshoe") where all of the shoes provided were traditional wood with leather (babiche) lacings. I had planned to invest in a pair of the flash high tech metal shoes, but as we traipsed through the woods in our old traditionals it dawned on me that metal would be in-appropriate. Silent, supportive, and traditional - I fell in love with my loaned wooden snowshoes.So last fall I placed an order for two sets of Iversons - one for myself and one for my wife. Green Mountain design which seems the best compromise for the terrarin we would be travelling.I won't kid you. Breaking trail in these, in deep snow, is work- offer to bring up the rear if you're smart. But it's an extremely relaxing way to commune with winter in those climates where there is really no alternative.If you bike, you probably know the feeling of the bike eventually becoming an extension of your movements as you ride. I feel the same as I slip on my Iverson's and head into the woods.Finally you have the sense that you're wearing 'art'. Each pair is handcrafted and unique. Because they look so good you do'nt have to pick up after yourself - just leave the snowshoes against a wall and you have a winter art gallery.If you're in the market for traditional wooden showshoes you'll find that there aren't many options left.
