By chris
I have been searching for a comfortable mid height boot that I could use season round riding a harley. Was not impressed with the motorcycle branded versions, frankly thought that you paid a lot for a badge and the boot itself was nothing special. Finally found LOWA and wow what a difference this has made. Build quality is excellent, look is clean and the leather liner is awesome. Have been riding in 50 degree weather so I can comment on their suitability in warmer summer weather yet. But so far I love the fit and build quality. Not the cheapest boot but well worth the extra $$.UPDATE October 1 2012. So it has been several weeks, months since I purchased these boots. In that time I have worn these every day for every purpose. I changed the soles out for super feet which made these even more comfortable. Absolutely the best shoe I have ever worn. Extremely light weight, great fit, great protection. After months of riding, and moving, yard work, air travel and miles and miles of walking I LOVE these boots. No sign that they are wearing out so I expect I will be still wearing these every day for the next year.

By Hank Wordsmith
This boot is much more comfortable than the GTX version. Don't get me wrong, both are nice. I like the support the polyurethane midsole gives this day-hiker. The main difference between the two is the leather lining. You probably wouldn't think it'd make all that much of a difference, but it does. It's SUPER comfy. Inside the leather lining is this foam- it feels like that memory foam inside of Temperpedic mattresses- it hugs your feet and ankles with the perfect amount of support. The ankle is never pinchey or bitey. You can snug the laces down as tight as you want, and this boot will just keep lovingly hugging your feet no matter what you put it through. the boot is also very handsome. I got the color "Espresso." It's exactly the same color as my chocolate lab. I like that we match! The only negative thing I'd say about this boot is that it's a bit too narrow. It does come in a wide, but you'd have to seek that out somewhere else. (Or just wait for the leather to stretch a bit.)

I have had several hiking boots for mainly day hikes: Vasquez, Lowa Ranger (too heavy) Lowa Tempest (not enough ankle support) but the Renegade LL is perfect for warm weather hiking, with no real break in required. The leather lining (sans the Gore-Tex) makes these boots are much cooler to wear and far more breathable; I have been in plenty of water and have not missed the GoreTex thus far. The soles are Vibram and stick like glue to dry granite, but do let loose on wet rock (like everything else). Overall, this is an expensive boot, but are very comfortable and well worth the cash, especially when every ounce of comfort matters.
