5The only one that works...
By S. Forest King
I am glad Peplink came out with a low end home user dual wan router. I have tried two other brands and never could get them to work properly. I spent countless hours with settings and on tech support with both of these other noted brands. I plugged the Peplink in to both of my ISPs (one via cable and the backup via dsl) and it works. No fuss, no bothers with an inordinate amount of settings. I have not had a drop since I plugged it in (Cable ISP has been working on lines lately), although there does seem to be an issue with actual bandwith, I am not sure that is the router's fault but might be my cable ISP. I will update this if I find out otherwise. It would be nice if there were a widget or monitoring method to see the throughput on both connections, but other than that I can't see too much more on how to improve it.If your connection matters... I would suggest you give this a try. I personally cannot afford to have a disconnect during trading hours.UPDATE: Also they sell a wireless bridge (Officeport) that you are able to manage from within your browser. They sell it from another company called Pepwave. It was worth getting for me since I was having difficulty connecting my DIR-655 (my previous router) as a bridge. I did not know about the other company and their products until I called the Peplink tech support trying to connect my previous router. Just thought this info might help a prospective purchaser.UPDATE #2: It's now 06-07-2011 and this router is going strong. No problems whatsoever. I mention this since I came back to the product to link it for a friend who was having connection problems with his ISP. This dual-wan load balancing router and the accompanying Pepwave Officeport bridge have given me less trouble than all of my previous single wan routers I have had throughout 25 years of computer use.I would still love to see a desktop gadget that shows bandwith for each ISP though, since it would help with setting the optimum loading and determining which tier is acceptable on the DSL backup line. However I am considering dumping the DSL and purchasing the 3g version of this router since my cell phone is always at my side.

5Nice Router
By Mr. Orph
We needed high availability in our home due to us working from home. We had DSL and although it's pretty stable, from time to time the TELCO (a large one in the South) would have outages. When experiencing one of these outages from the TELCO that my local DSL ISP couldn't resolve, the TELCO would take its sweet time getting to the issue; after denying it was them at all. So I added Comcast xFinity cable to go along with my DSL. I am no fan at all of Comcast, but I figure they both can't be down at the same time. Well, at least the odds are low for that scenario.Having the 2 ISP inputs alleviated the worry of what to do if the DSL was to go down. The problem domain then shifted to my local network. I now had 2 wireless networks set up. The issue is if the DSL goes down, all machines in the house have to then switch to the network with the cable as its WAN. There had to be a better way.Enter the Pepling 20. Within 20 minutes of receiving this unit, I had the cable on WAN 1 and the DSL on WAN 2 with my wireless router plugged into a LAN port on the Peplink. I set the cable as the priority WAN with the DSL as the failover. It works flawlessly. I disconnected WAN 1 and the router switched to WAN 2, connected via PPPOE, and user never knew the anything happened. I set it up so that I get an email and a text message that the WAN 1 connection went down and that WAN 2 was now connected. High availability at a SOHO cost.I highly recommend!

5Excellent product, reliable, easy to configure
By Roger E. Ison
I bought the Balance 20L to provide fail-safe internet service using two WANs (internet ports from two different service providers) simultaneously. At my home one WAN is provided by a cable modem, the other by an IP radio on my roof. The router was easy to configure using Internet Explorer or FireFox browser, even though in my special setup one WAN has a static IP and the other gets its IP address dynamically. It took only about 20 minutes to set up the Balance 20L. There is no special software to install on your PC, either. Everything including help files and a setup "wizard" is provided the router itself. It's the cleanest router setup I've ever used.My two WANs have different maximum data rates, and the router can be configured to direct traffic proportionately - although its default behavior configuration works just fine. The IP radio is faster than the cable modem, but is not completely reliable. The Balance 20L checks every 5 seconds whether both WAN links are working. If one fails, all traffic is switched to the other WAN port until the failed link comes back up.When both ports are up, which is 98% of the time, all my internet activities are faster and smoother than ever before. Skype works flawlessly, even when two Skype video connections are active at the same time. The Balance 20L has so far (2 weeks) been completely reliable. It correctly switched traffic several times when the IP radio link went down, and sends me an email message when either link goes down or comes back up.The Balance 20L does not incorporate a WiFi capability. But if you have a WiFi router, you can probably use it with this device. All I had to do was disable DHCP and NAT in my old WiFi router, then connect one of its LAN "switch" ports (not its WAN port) to one of the LAN ports of the Balance 20L. Presto! WiFi in the house again.I'm really delighted with this product, especially after reading about the difficulties and reliability issues some people have experienced with dual-WAN routers made by other manufacturers. This product works well. It does what's needed for home or individual use when very high reliability Internet service is an absolute requirement.
