I bought a pair of Iverson Alaskan snowshoes in neoprene back in January,08. In the three winters since then I've easily put 100 miles on them if not more. As is highly recommended, every year I've made sure to touch up any worn areas of the wood with marine grade (spar) varnish. The neoprene needs no attention. With this said I Love these snowshoes! I like to leave the packed trails and go anywhere I want in the deep snow. That's where you will really appreciate this style of shoe. If you need to be able to turn on a dime and work in snowshoes(trapping, fishing, taping maple trees, etc)you will want something much shorter, these are 56" long. They're meant for open country but I find them easy to maneuver though the mature forests in northern Michigan where I live. Heavy brush and undergrowth may be a problem. I love walking in these shoes. Compared to aluminum shoes these float better, track straighter, and let me move quicker in deep powder. They're quiet, no clank clank echoing through the woods! Snow and ice doesn't stick to them nor does it pile up on top of them when you take a step. These shoes have held up very well and it looks like I'll be using them for years to come. If the lacing wares out, can send them to Iversons for relacing. I used "H" style harnesses which I've worn out by now. They work very well, but are a pain to adjust for different size boots. I'm going to try the Iverson AA harness this winter. I really think wood snowshoes work much better than modern ones and I've spent a lot of time in both. There are different styles of wood shoes for different tasks. If you love to brake trail in deep snow , or if you need to support a lot of weight I highly recommend this snowshoe. I highly recommend any Iverson product. They're 100% made in the USA by skilled people who take pride in their work.
