All the splitting axes have a concave blade to aid the splitting power. This one is heavy enough to split ÒroundsÓ of straight-grained timber. The textured handle offers added grip. The longer handle (31") offers you a greater swing! Please note, that unlike the Maul, this axe does not have a hardened poll, so should not be used as a sledgehammer on wedges. Never got mine.

I don't know about the axe. Mine got stolen from my porch. The company I got it from was great about handling the whole thing. UPS sucks! They kept in touch with me regarding delivery. I ended up getting the maul after trying to get another. They didn't have it if not I would have bought from them.

Better than I thought.

Ok, I have been using this one for a few months and I will say that at the beginning I was not as impressed with it as some were, but I was willing to give it another chance. When it comes to splitting a hard wood such as oak, walnut or similar wood it does wonders. If you let the logs dry a bit before splitting, they simply fly apart! I have used this axe on green cedar and hackberry, but it does not work as well as I would like. If the handle were slightly longer or the head was slightly heavier, I think that it would breeze thru green wood. As it stands I still like this one and am using it as my main splitter. I have sharpened it up a bit more as I used it, I think that this has also lead to my improved liking of it. All in all it is good, the craftsmanship is top notch, and I like the steel band that is mounted right below the head. It has taken a good hit and not even budged. Definately a solid investment!
