Thoroughly Play-Tested and It Shows!

As a long-time fighting game player (mainly the Street Fighter series) and avid board game collector I must say that I hate that I hadn't discovered Yomi sooner! This game is quick, surprisingly deep, and loads of fun. Even my non-fighting game friends really enjoy the concepts here. I have to give the developer props, his extensive play-testing seems to have produced a top-class game design that feels even amongst all 10 included characters. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and it sees a lot of table time amongst my friends.WITH THAT SAID...I am glad to support developers. Especially one's that put out this caliber of game. With Yomi though, there is no question that the price is way too steep for what's included. Don't get me wrong... I feel it is worth every penny when compared to how much attention and love it's gotten from my gaming circle but the developer advertises an excellent card stock and composition. I find this to be actually the opposite. I have many card games such as Dominion, Thunderstone, 7 Wonders to name a few. All of them are superior in durability when compared to Yomi. In fact, I'd HIGHLY suggest sleeving all of these decks for not only their protection but for much smoother shuffling and handling. I used Ultra Pro standard sleeves to sleeve all mine. My local card shop sold a pack of 100 for $1 so it was very inexpensive to sleeve. Also, let's consider the card count. Each deck comes with 56 cards (52+2 jokers+character card+reference card). 56x10 characters is 560 cards. Dominion for example is 500 cards for a price in the mid-thirties. Yomi on the other hand costs a c-note. Yes, Yomi comes with 2 very useful play mats and score counters but I don't believe that warrants the price!Normally with what I said above I would rate this product a 4/5. It's just a little too pricey for what I consider... but make no mistake! I am absolutely loving this praise-worthy game and I can't imagine a better $100 spent for my game group. It's already seen probably over 30 plays in the very short time that I have owned it. This is definitely one of those situations where you know you probably spent more than it should be sold for but you sure as hell got your money's worth and then some! For this reason it really deserves a 5 from me! If you're debating it, I dare you to make the jump. You'll be happy you did.

Takes a few games to actually learn the ins and outs of the game, but once you get a handle on it, it's a surprisingly deep and complex game, and all the unique matchups keeps the game fresh.I would definitely suggest this to anyone who's into fighting games or any sort of competitive vs game.

I purchased this for my brother, since I wasn't big into Yomi when I tried it via the development server. "It's just rock-paper-scissors, I can do that for free!" Then the box came and I started playing a bit more. It is, still, just rock-paper-scissors, but it's deeper than that, too.It's an interesting strategy game with a learning curve, and everyone in the house has played it at least once, including the five-year-old.The cards are about what I'd expect, the mats were above and beyond, the box is well designed. I wish the pieces for tracking life weren't plastic, but otherwise happy with quality overall.
